“Back to the roots”

...is the new credo. However, trend-conscious manufacturers and designers do not actually use the roots themselves for their products but the trees growing from them - namely wood! It is impressive how versatile, surprising and modern they deal with this renewable raw material. Such as FUNDAMENTAL.BERLIN and Duravit.

The design and architecture office FUNDAMENTAL.BERLIN has a passion for designing wooden objects and moving nature indoors. And they match any decorative style. “A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS”, for example, can accommodate your favorite things and be used in the bathroom horizontally or vertically as a wall shelf or even as a console.

Actually, this shelf is simply a collection of cubic elements that can be assembled into a three-dimensional cube of different sizes. And what do you get? Edged wall art, decorative objects - or the depicted corner shelf for little treasures. This creation features a particular material: untreated, raw wood, which continues to matures and react with its environment, making each piece unique.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

Also made of wood is the wood engraving ATLAS, a tribute to the mountain range of the same name at the edge of the Sahara. On the distinctive, checkered pattern of the table surface converge light and dark wood tones. Seven small “Wood Hills”" disrupt the smooth surface and emphasize the features. Playful detail: The upper side of the table is smooth and flat, while the bottom consists of a geometric formation where the wooden pieces simply project downwards.

The products of Fundamental.Berlin are preferably made with renewable materials and without harmful additives. The team produces mainly within the EU, some of its designs are also manufactured in sheltered workshops in and around Berlin.

Wood in the bathroom used differently

Bathroom furniture made of wood create a warm and homely atmosphere. It is exciting when the furniture itself adds a whole new lightness to the bathroom. Such as the Delos series by EOOS. The apparently floating console uses no visible support structure, which makes it appear extremely light and filigree. This is made possible by an invisible wall mounting. The same principle is used in the new furniture range L-Cube by Christian Werner. The Hamburg designer adds so-called shadow gaps to the front and side of his furniture. This optical trick lifts the basin to a higher level. It seems as if the ceramics, furniture and furniture front would not even touch.

The bathroom furniture collection Vero by Kurt Merki Jr. also uses no visible fixing. The vertically arranged handles that are recessed into the front add a striking eye-catcher to the bathroom.
